We are in the process of reinstituting the ministry of Lectors at Holy Cross. The lector is the person responsible for reading the first two bible lessons and the psalm at Sunday Worship. This is a good choice for people who would like to read the lessons, but do not wish to be worship assistants. As a lector, you would simply leave your seat to go to the podium to read, then return to your seat at worship when finished.
To be a lector, you need only be an attendee who is able to read the lessons well and commit to a schedule. All lectors will be trained.
Being a lector is an excellent way to involve children. One does not have to be confirmed to be a lector. There is no age requirement, as long as the child is able to read well. I recommend that children who read at worship be accompanied by an adult, and perhaps share the responsibility.
If you are currently a worship assistant, you may also sign up for the roster of lectors. Once the lectors are trained and ready, the worship assistant will no longer be responsible for fulfilling the lector’s role at worship.
THERE WILL BE AN INFORMATIONAL MEETING ON SATURDAY MORNING, MAY 18TH, AT 10:00AM IN THE SANCTUARY.
If you have any questions, or if you are interested and cannot attend the informational session, feel free to call me at 207-854-4321, or email me at wbarter@nesynod.org.
Thanks!
